Yes, you must be 18 or older to enter into the Ditto Music publishing agreement. However, if you're a student under 18:

• You can still submit your music for review
• A parent or legal guardian must co-sign the agreement
• Your parent/guardian will need to be present when accepting the contract
• All payments will go through your parent/guardian until you turn 18

Why 18? Music publishing agreements are legal contracts. UK law requires you to be 18 to enter into binding contracts on your own. With parental consent, younger artists can still participate!

You keep 100% of YOUR royalties - but let's break down what that actually means:

How Music Royalties Work:

• When someone streams your song on Spotify, Spotify pays money for that stream
• That money is split: some goes to the songwriter/artist, some to the distributor
• You get 90% of what's left after platform fees
• Ditto Music keeps 10% as their distribution fee

Example:

• Spotify pays £100 for your streams
• You receive: £90
• Ditto Music fee: £10

Important: You keep 100% ownership of your music forever. The 90/10 split is only for distribution and collection services - not ownership!

The agreement lasts for ONE YEAR, then automatically renews each year unless you cancel. Here's how it works:

Year 1:

• You cannot cancel during your first year
• This gives both you and BCT Records/Ditto Music time to properly work together

After Year 1:

• Agreement automatically renews for another year
• To cancel: Give 3 months written notice before renewal date
• Example: If your year ends December 31st, notify by September 30th

Collection Period:

• Even after cancelling, Ditto can collect royalties for an extra year
• This is for money earned DURING your contract period
• Streaming platforms take time to pay out - this ensures you get all your money

Accepted File Formats:

• .MP3 - Most common, widely supported
• .WAV - Highest quality, preferred for professional releases
• .M4A - Good quality, Apple format

Requirements:

• Maximum file size: 50MB per track
• Minimum submission: 2 songs
• Maximum submission: 5 songs (for initial review)
• High quality audio (at least 44.1kHz, 16-bit for WAV files)

Tip: WAV files provide the best quality for distribution to streaming platforms. If you have your music in WAV format, use that!

Payment Schedule:

• Payments are made within 30 days after each month ends
• Minimum payment threshold: £25
• If you earn less than £25, it carries over to the next month

Example Timeline:

• January streams → Payment by early March
• February streams → Payment by early April
• And so on...

Why the delay?

• Streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) pay distributors 60-90 days after streams happen
• Ditto Music collects from all platforms
• Calculates your share accurately
• Then pays you

You'll receive: A detailed royalty statement showing exactly where your streams came from and how much you earned!

Co-writing is common in music! Here's how it works:

When Submitting:

• List ALL co-writers on the submission form
• Specify what percentage of the song each person owns
• Example: You (50%), Friend A (30%), Friend B (20%)

For Payments:

• Each co-writer receives their share separately
• If you own 50%, you get 50% of the royalties
• Other co-writers must also register with BCT Records to receive their share
• If there's a dispute about percentages, payments may be held until resolved

Important: Make sure all co-writers agree on the split percentages BEFORE submitting. Get this in writing!

Yes, but with important conditions:

What You CAN Do:

• Upload your music videos to your own YouTube channel
• Share your songs on social media
• Perform your songs live and post recordings
• Make lyric videos or visualizers

What You CANNOT Do:

• Upload the SAME songs to another music distributor
• Give exclusive rights to another company
• Sign with another record label for the same songs

The Rule: During the agreement, ONLY Ditto Music can distribute your registered songs to streaming platforms. But you can still promote yourself on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, etc.!

This is called "Sync Licensing" and it's great news for you!

What is Sync Licensing?

• When your music is used in videos, films, TV shows, ads, or games
• Companies pay to "synchronize" your music with their visual content
• This can be very lucrative!

For Regular Usage (TikTok, Instagram, etc.):

• Your song becomes available in TikTok's music library automatically
• Users can use your song in their videos for free
• You earn royalties every time someone uses it
• You receive 90% of these royalties

For Commercial Usage (Ads, Films, etc.):

• Companies must pay for a sync license
• Ditto Music negotiates these deals on your behalf
• You receive 80% of sync licensing fees
• These fees can range from hundreds to thousands of pounds!

Example: If a brand pays £1,000 to use your song in their ad, you receive £800!

You can cancel, but there are specific rules:

During First Year:

• You CANNOT cancel during your first year
• This is a standard industry practice
• Ensures commitment from both parties

After First Year:

• Give 3 months written notice before your renewal date
• Send cancellation to: [email protected]
• Agreement ends on your annual renewal date

What Happens After Cancellation:

• Your music stays on streaming platforms until you remove it
• Ditto continues collecting royalties for 1 more year (for streams during the agreement)
• You must notify all platforms that Ditto no longer represents you
• Any active licenses (like song used in a film) continue

Remember: You cannot upload the same songs to another distributor while the agreement is active OR during the collection period!
